Leaf bug

Found this cute little leaf bug, was only about 10mm long.

EDIT 08/07/2011 I've worked it out, it is in fact a planthopper, specifically Acanalonia conica. It is in a separate order then Katydids. Leafhoppers are Hemiptera which are known as "True Bugs", where as katydids are Orthoptera which includes grasshoppers, locusts and crickets.

  1. I've seen a pink one, they are apparently very rare but on holiday in America one year I got to see one in an insectarium.

  4. I call these leaf bugs too... I found one today when it landed on my book... they're sooo cute! They're my favourite bugs (yes, I have no life lol). So yeah, I Googled them to see if I could figure out what they were.

  5. Hmm I am not actually convinced it is Acanalonia conica... it looks similar but not exactly the same...the shape at the tail end is different. Maybe another species of Acanalonia?

  7. I am currently looking at a little leaf bug which looks most similar to Acanalonia conica, yet this fellow appears to have transparent wings and a very flat face; either that or little bro is looking down in deep contemplation.
