Another big relief! So I guess I was right third time. I built a second parallel voltage regulator at about 5.8v and now I have nice solid blue layers and nice white too! If I try short all the layers together it goes back to rainbows, so I suppose that does have an effect on it also. But as I said below, only one layer will be on at a time. So here's a nice pic of white, yes it looks like it has a reddish tint to it, but I can calibrate that out, and another photo showing what my electronics look like so far.
